SOCIAL PROGRAMMEAn interesting social programme is being organized by the Local Organizing Committee for conference attendees and accompanying persons.-Monday 22 JUNE h.18.15-WELCOME RECEPTION AND CONCERT Welcome reception will be given at 'Caffe' delle Arti', the restaurant inside the National Gallery of Modern Art, which is located just in front Academia Belgica. Before party, the medieval music group "Amoroso Cantar" will play a selection of pieces composed between the XII and the XV centuries by using instruments which are the original reconstruction of the ancient ones based on the old literature. The group is considered one of the best of the Italian medieval groups. -Tuesday 23 JUNE, FREE AFTERNOON-EXCURSION TO TIVOLI and visit of VILLA D'ESTE The LOC is organizing a trip to the town of Tivoli (about 30 km far from Rome) and the visit of Villa D'Este and Villa Adriana (if time will be left). Villa D'Este was the Palace of the Cardinal Ippolito D'Este (governor of Tivoli in the 1550) chracterized by the presence of a garden which is considered masterpiece of the Italian gardens, included in the UNESCO world heritage list. With its impressive concentration of fountains, nymphs, grottoes, plays of water, and music, it constitutes a much-copied model for European gardens in the mannerist and baroque styles.
The cost for the excursion is EUR 42, including the trip by bus, the guided tour of the two Villas, entrance ticket. The cost of the excursion is not included in the registration fee. -Wednesday 24 JUNE,CONFERENCE BANQUET- CASINA VALADIER (Piazza Bucarest, Villa Borghese) Casina Valadier rises up on the ancient Collis Hortulorum, the highest point of Pincio, where in the past great Roman families owned the most sumptuous and vast gardens in Rome. It was built between 1816 and 1837 by Giuseppe Valadier, a well-known Roman architect and urban planner, involved in the important restoration of Piazza Del Popolo and Pincio in Rome. Valadier revised in neoclassical style the prior Casino Della Rota, a 16th century building built on the remains of an ancient Roman cistern. From the beginning, Casina was planned and built to be used as a meeting place after the manner of French Bistro but not withstanding the incredible beauty of the place and the view, a lot of time was needed to obtain the satisfaction of the Romans, patrons of other famous meeting places such as the Caffè Veneziano on the Corso or Nazzarri in Piazza di Spagna. Only after the First World War did Casina become the most fashionable place in Rome, a haunt for artists, intellectuals and political figures of the world. In Casina Valadier album of honour there are autographs of celebrated personalities such as Gandhi, King Farouk, Strauss, Pirandello and many more. Here we will celebrate the birthday of Lucio Paternò. Cocktail and appetizer will be served in the garden while the dinner will be served in the 'Sala Impero' at the first floor . HOW TO REACH 'CASINA VALADIER' Casina Valadier can be easily reached by Piazzale Flaminio (Flaminio stop) or from Piazza di Spagna (Spagna stop). From Piazzale Flaminio: walk through Porta del Popolo, go in Piazza del Popolo and take the path on the left to walk up Pincio to Casina Valadier. From Piazza di Spagna: Go up Spagna stairs and walk in Viale della Trinita' dei Monti to reach Casina Valadier.
